License management at the HPA
"From the first workshop to the ongoing operation of the SAM service, the Noventiq Northern Europe team impressed with their very high level of competence and excellent specialist knowledge in licensing rights. We were really impressed by the commitment of the project staff to work their way through difficult and ‘historical‘ issues and to process them transparently." (Stefan van Eijden // Manager IT Base infrastructure)
The HPA is responsible for the efficient, resource-saving and sustainable planning and implementation of infrastructure measures in the port and is the contact for all questions regarding the water and land-side infrastructure, the safety and ease of shipping, the port railway facilities, property management and the economic conditions in the Port. Looking to the future of the Port of Hamburg, the HPA is looking for innovative approaches to make sustainable use of the port‘s growth potential and to strengthen and expand its international position in the long term.
The HPA was looking for a way to gain visibility of the full estate of software and hardware deployments, as well as previous and future license purchases. This will allow HPA to proactively work on future requirements more optimally. Integral to this were the structures pertaining to the process and lifecycle which were to be analysed and optimised. In addition driving more value and intelligence from their existing SAM tool from Snow Software which was to be used more effectively. Our customer decided to have the license management program implemented and accompanied by comprehensive advice from our ITAM, SAM and licensing specialists. The decisive factor here was Noventiq Northern Europe‘s (formerly known as Softline Group Northern Europe) vendor independence as well as the trusted cooperation and innovative approach in previous projects.
The extensive SAM project resulted in the successful implementation of a full license health check for Microsoft. The cooperation between HPA, Noventiq Northern Europe and Microsoft created transparency and compliance for the publisher's products. The implementation of a license management programme also led to an identification of a potential overspend and this enables HPA to achieve cost savings in a six-figure value. The HPA therefore decided to work with Noventiq Northern Europe on a permanent basis: we provide ongoing support in the day-to-day business of license management, maintaining license purchases in the SAM tool, and in answering licensing questions.
